On March 31, 2025, a whale washed ashore in W̱SÁNEĆ Territory. In accordance with W̱SÁNEĆ cultural practices, a blessing was conducted by Eric Pelkey, Hereditary Chief of Tsawout and Community Engagement Coordinator of the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council.

This ceremony honours the whale’s spirit and acknowledges its journey, grounded in the deep relationship between W̱SÁNEĆ and the ocean.
